        Hi. Acid can stay active in a bottle for a long time. Most acids are formed from dissolving a gas in water, so over time the gas slowly escapes from the water and the acid gets weaker.

        Yes Stuart is right, all acids will have a ‘use by’ date.

        If you keep it sealed in the bottle, it can last for years and still be fine. If you leave the lid off, as Stuart says, the acid will get weaker over time. Some acids will actually suck the moisture out of the air and dilute themselves if you leave the lid off.

        They are all right, not much more to add. As soon as something is open to the environment it can become contaminated and then its kind of not useful anymore!
