Stars are responsible for creating new chemical elements. They crush hydrogen together to make helium, lithium, beryllium, and eventually all the elements up to iron, which is when they start to die. If a star explodes it throws all this matter out into space, creating vast dust clouds.

Is is from these clouds that new stars are born. The cloud begins to collapse and rotate under gravity and the central part, which is the most dense, will eventually become a new star. Further out in the cloud, other concentration of dust occur. The heavy elements tend to fall towards the centre of the cloud, and so the rocky planets are formed in this region. Further out are lighter elements, which is why the outer planets in the solar system are mainly made of gas.

The Earth is estimated to have been formed about 4,600,000,000 years ago and virtually every element in your body was created within a star that would have exploded prior to that time!

Our planets are thought to have formed from a solar nebula, this is a disc-shaped cloud of gas and dust left over from the Sun’s formation. People call this accretion, The planets began as dust grains in orbit around the central protostar. Within this swirling debris, rocky particles began to collide, forming larger masses that soon attracted even more particles via gravity, forming planets!

Hello, I’m afraid I don’t know enough about this to answer your question, but I think the other scientists have answered this quite well!

As mass attracts mass (the basis of gravity) over time enough particles in space will gather together to make something bigger, like a star or planet. This takes a long, long time though!
